Maintenance precautions for commonly used oil sealed vacuum pumps on vacuum oil filters
Date: 2025-11-05Read: 6
The vacuum pump is one of the key components on the vacuum oil filter, which is related to whether the vacuum oil filter can dehydrate and degas normally and whether it can operate smoothly. Here are some maintenance precautions for commonly used oil sealed vacuum pumps in vacuum oil filters. We have compiled a very detailed and practical guide for you.
Following these precautions can significantly extend the service life of the vacuum pump and maintain the efficient operation of the oil filter.
  Core maintenance principles
Oil is the lifeline:Vacuum pump oil is not only responsible for lubrication, but also plays a role in sealing and cooling, and its state directly determines the performance and service life of the pump.
Dustproof and Waterproof:Oil sealed vacuum pumps are most afraid of inhaling water vapor, dust, and corrosive gases, which can quickly emulsify or contaminate the pump oil and damage internal components.
Anti backflow oil:Prevent pump oil from flowing back into the vacuum system during shutdown.
1、 Daily operation and inspection (each use or daily)
  Pre startup inspection:
Oil level check:Observe the oil level through the oil window while the pump is stopped. The oil level should be at the oil window1/2 to 3/4between.excessiveWill cause fuel injection, too littleIt can cause poor lubrication and sealing.
Oil quality inspection:Observe the color of the pump oil. Clear and light yellow are normal. If it becomesmilky white(indicating inhalation of water vapor)Dark brown or black(indicating severe oxidation or pollution), must be replaced immediately.
Turning gear:For new pumps or pumps that have been out of service for a long time, rotate the coupling or pulley several times by hand before starting to ensure that there is no jamming inside.
  Monitoring during operation:
Running sound:Listen for a smooth and even running sound, and check for any abnormal impact or friction sounds.
Temperature rise situation:Touch the pump body with your hand and feel the temperature. If the normal temperature rise is within the range of 40 ℃ -60 ℃ and it feels hot (over 80 ℃), it is considered abnormal and needs to be stopped for inspection.
Ultimate vacuum degree:Observe the vacuum gauge to confirm that the pump can reach and maintain the normal maximum vacuum level. If the pumping speed slows down significantly or the vacuum level cannot be increased, it is usually an important signal of problems with the pump oil or the pump itself.
  Shutdown precautions:
Pump with gas damper:Before shutting down, open it firstGas Town ValveRun for about 30 minutes to remove some water vapor from the pump, then close the gas damper and stop the machine.
All pumps:After shutdown,Be sure to immediately connect the inlet of the vacuum pump to the atmosphere(For example, open the "vacuum valve" on the oil filter). This is the most crucial step to prevent the pump oil from being sucked back into the vacuum system and oil filter tank due to negative pressure after stopping the pump.
  防止返油:
2、 Regular maintenance (determined by frequency of use and operating conditions)
  1. Replacement of vacuum pump oil (the most important maintenance item)
  Replacement cycle
First oil change:New or overhauled pump, first run100-200 hoursIt should be replaced later.
Conventional oil change:general adviceEvery 500-1000 hours of operationorEvery 3-6 monthsReplace once. If the working conditions are harsh (such as handling oil with high water content), the oil change cycle needs to be significantly shortened.
  Oil change steps:
After shutdown, remove the old oil while it is still hotoil drain portDischarge.
openair intakeInject a small amountNew vacuum pump oil(or specialized flushing oil), briefly start the pump and run it for tens of seconds for flushing, then discharge it.
Clean or replaceoil filter(If equipped).
fromOil injection portInject the designated new vacuum pump oil to the specified oil level.Be sure to use the same model of vacuum pump oil recommended by the manufacturerCannot be replaced with other lubricants.
  2. Cleaning/replacement of intake filter
Regularly check the connection at the pump inletMetal wire mesh filterorDust filterTo prevent its blockage from affecting the pumping speed. Clean or replace with cleaning agents according to the pollution situation.
  3. Utilization of gas control valves
If the processed transformer oil contains trace amounts of moisture, during the vacuum pumping process, it should beOpen the gas valveIt can help to discharge the inhaled water vapor with some gas in advance, delay the emulsification of pump oil, and extend the service life of oil. When approaching the ultimate vacuum, close the gas damper valve again to obtain the optimal vacuum degree.
  4. Maintenance for long-term disuse
If the pump needs to be idle for a long time (such as more than one month), the following operations must be performed:
Drain the old oil.
Inject new oil to the standard level and manually turn it several times to coat all internal metal surfaces with new oil for rust prevention.
Seal the intake and exhaust ports with blind plates or sealing caps and store them in a dry and clean environment.
3、 Common Problems and Fault Prevention
  Pump oil emulsification (whitening):
Reason:Inhale a large amount of water vapor.
prevention:Make full use of gas control valves; Set up after the vacuum tank of the vacuum oil filterCondenser trap (moisture collector)Avoid directly extracting humid air.
  Vacuum degree decreases:
Reason:Insufficient pump oil, pollution, and aging; Leakage in the intake duct or seal; Wear and tear inside the pump.
Troubleshooting:Firstly, check the oil level and quality ->inspect all pipelines and seals ->finally consider any internal pump faults.
  Overheating of pump body:
Reason:Improper oil level, poor oil quality, high exhaust pressure (poor exhaust), poor cooling, internal friction.
  Difficulty starting or abnormal noise:
Reason:Long term shutdown leads to internal rusting, blocked oil circuits, and damage to internal components such as bearings or rotor blades. The machine should be stopped immediately for inspection.
  Summary points
Check the oil level and color frequently-This is the most intuitive method of judgment.
Use the gas control valve well-Necessary operations when handling oil containing water.
Shutdown must break the vacuum-Key habits for protecting pumps and systems.
Regularly change the oil-Use original brand and model vacuum pump oil.
Keep clean and dry-Strictly prevent pollutants and moisture from entering the pump.
Finally, we strongly recommend that youCarefully read the manufacturer's instruction manual accompanying the vacuum pump manufacturerBecause different models of pumps may have special requirements in details such as oil type, oil seal position, etc. Strictly following the manufacturer's specifications for operation and maintenance is the guarantee for the long-term stable operation of the equipment
