Aerobic Biochemical Treatment Process for Wastewater
Date: 2022-03-30Read: 8

With the continuous improvement of environmental management and the increase in the scale of sewage treatment in cities and industrial and mining enterprises, the energy consumption of sewage treatment has also attracted more and more attention. In the long run, energy conservation and efficiency improvement of sewage treatment processes will be a long-term requirement. Aerobic process sewage treatment is one of the high-energy consumption processes. The energy-saving and efficiency improvement of existing sewage treatment processes mainly focus on energy consumption unit review, operating parameter control, equipment upgrading and transformation, and many new energy-saving and consumption reducing technologies have emerged.

Biochemical technology, as a mature process for sewage treatment, has been widely applied. Among them, aerobic process has become the main application process in biochemical treatment due to its high processing efficiency and small footprint. Aerobic biochemical treatment is a treatment method that utilizes aerobic microorganisms (including facultative microorganisms) to biodegrade organic matter in the presence of oxygen, making it stable and harmless. Microorganisms utilize organic pollutants present in water as substrates for aerobic metabolism. Through a series of biochemical reactions, energy is released step by step, and ultimately stabilized as low-energy inorganic substances to meet the requirements of harmlessness, for return to the natural environment or further treatment.

Biological contact oxidation process is a sewage treatment technology that was pioneered in the early 1970s. It combines the characteristics of activated sludge process and biofilm process, with high volumetric load, no need for sludge reflux, no sludge expansion problem, simpler operation and management compared to activated sludge process, and strong adaptability to fluctuations in water quantity and quality. It has been widely adopted. The essence of its technology is to fill the biological reaction tank with fillers, and some microorganisms grow fixedly on the surface of the fillers in the form of biofilms, while others grow in a flocculent suspension in water. The oxygenated sewage submerges all the packing material and flows through it at a certain flow rate. Covering the packing with biofilm, sewage comes into extensive contact with the biofilm. Under the metabolism of microorganisms on the biofilm, organic pollutants in the sewage are removed and purified.

The operation of biological aerobic processes requires aeration and oxygenation, except for the biological turntable. Aeration not only allows the liquid in the tank to come into contact with the air for oxygenation, but also accelerates the transfer of oxygen from the air to the liquid by stirring the liquid; In addition, aeration also serves the purpose of preventing the sinking of suspended solids in the pool and enhancing the contact between organic matter, microorganisms, and dissolved oxygen in the pool. This ensures that microorganisms in the pool can oxidize and decompose organic matter in wastewater under sufficient dissolved oxygen conditions.
