Development Status of Internal Fiberglass Storage Tanks

  Introduction:FRP tankIt has the characteristics of light weight, corrosion resistance, low maintenance cost, long use, low cost, easy installation, and speed. This guide is intended to serve as a manual for the lifting, installation, use, and maintenance of fiberglass storage tanks. Try to prevent damage as much as possible and maximize its use.

The development of fiberglass storage tanks has been very rapid. We have issued standards for fiber plastic storage tanks, which specify the raw materials, production processes, structural forms, product performance and geometric dimensions, acceptance conditions, etc. for storage tanks, regulate the fiberglass product market, and promote the improvement of the quality of fiberglass storage tank products.

At present, fiberglass storage tanks are mainly used for underground petroleum storage tanks, chemical food containers, transportation tanks, polyacrylamide mother liquor storage tanks for tertiary oil recovery, industrial ultrapure water storage tanks, pollution recovery tanks, and so on. At present, many factories have imported or produced tank winding equipment for oil from outside, which can perform on-site winding of series of tanks with a diameter of 12m or less, with a large volume of up to 2000m3 and considerable production capacity [1].

Fiberglass storage tanks are developing towards the direction of anti leakage, multifunctional (flame retardant, electrostatic, structural strength), composite (thermoplastic lining, fiberglass structural layer) and low cost. The design requirements for fiberglass storage tanks should adapt to this development direction, continuously expand the application scope of fiberglass storage tanks, select materials reasonably according to usage conditions and structural requirements, determine product structural forms and manufacturing process methods, and achieve the goal of reducing costs and meeting usage requirements.

1. Good corrosion resistance, leakage resistance, and weather resistance.

Fiberglass has special corrosion resistance properties. When storing corrosive media, fiberglass exhibits the same properties as other materials and can withstand various acids, alkalis, salts, and solvents.

2. Has excellent mechanical and physical properties.

The material density of fiberglass storage tank products is between 1.8-2.1g/cm3, which is about 1/4-1/5 of steel. It is formed by winding glass fibers with a diameter of 7-17 µ m, reducing the occurrence of microcracks in the fibers and achieving equal strength. This forming method can increase the fiber content by 80%, with a specific strength higher than steel, cast iron, and plastic. The thermal expansion coefficient is roughly equivalent to steel, and the thermal conductivity coefficient is only 0.5% of steel.

3. Long usage and low maintenance costs.

Manufacturing process: the microcomputer controlled winding host is used to make the inner lining (including corrosion and transition) on the core mold as required. After gel, the structural layer is wound according to the designed line type and thickness to make the outer protective layer of the structural layer. According to different storage media, the thin shell moment free theory is used to design the wall thickness of the storage tank separately.
