1、 Food processing wastewater mainly comes from three production sections

1. Raw material cleaning section. A large amount of sand, debris, leaves, skin, scales, meat, feathers, hair, etc. enter the wastewater, causing a large amount of suspended solids in the wastewater.

2. Production section. Many components in the raw materials cannot be fully utilized during the processing, and the unused parts enter the wastewater, resulting in a large amount of organic matter in the wastewater.

3. Forming section. In order to increase the color, aroma, and taste of food and extend its shelf life, various food additives are used, and some of them are lost into the wastewater, making the chemical composition of the wastewater complex.


2、 Classification of Food Industry

The food industry includes many industries related to food and beverage, with different classification methods. If classified by the raw materials used, it can be divided into: meat and meat products industry; Aquatic product processing industry; Poultry and egg processing industry; Fruit and vegetable processing industry; Dairy processing industry; Sugar industry; Grain processing industry; Starch industry; Using the oil and fat industry; Fermentation industry; Condiments and food additives industry, etc.

3、 Analysis of Water Quality of Food Processing Wastewater

The water quantity and quality characteristics of food processing wastewater are mainly reflected in six aspects:

1. Production varies with seasons, and the quality and quantity of wastewater also change with seasons.

2. The amount of wastewater varies from small-scale household industries to various large-scale factories in the food industry, with a wide variety of products and significant differences in raw materials, processes, and scales. The amount of wastewater used ranges from a few tons to several thousand tons per day.

3. There are many degradable components in the wastewater of the food industry. For the general food industry, as the raw materials come from natural organic substances, the components in the wastewater are mainly natural organic substances and do not contain toxic substances. Therefore, it has good biodegradability, with a BOD5/COD of up to 0.84.

4. There are many high concentration wastewater.

5. Wastewater contains various microorganisms, including pathogenic microorganisms, and is prone to decay and odor.

6. The nitrogen and phosphorus content in wastewater is high.

4、 Process description for food processing wastewater treatment

The sewage treatment system consists of a regulating tank, an anoxic tank, an aerobic tank (contact oxidation tank), and a secondary sedimentation tank. The sewage from the production workshop flows into the regulating pool, and a mechanical grid is installed at the inlet of the regulating pool to intercept large granular and fibrous impurities. The slag intercepted by the mechanical grid automatically enters the debris box and is regularly cleared and transported by the environmental sanitation department. In the regulating tank, the sewage is thoroughly mixed, the water volume is adjusted, and organic matter is initially degraded. Then, the sewage is pumped into the anoxic tank, where the mixed solution is thoroughly mixed with the original sewage. Through the action of facultative microorganisms, nitrite nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen are converted into nitrogen gas, completing denitrification and denitrification. The effluent from the anoxic tank flows into the contact oxidation tank. The contact oxidation tank is a biological treatment device that mainly uses biofilm method and also has activated sludge method. It provides oxygen source through a blower to fully contact the organic matter in the sewage with the biofilm in the tank. Through microbial adsorption and degradation, the water quality is purified. The effluent from the secondary sedimentation tank meets the first level standard of the Comprehensive Wastewater Discharge Standard and is discharged into nearby rivers.

The sludge in the secondary sedimentation tank is regularly pumped to the aerobic tank by the sludge reflux pump, and the remaining sludge is relatively small. The sludge is cleaned every two months and removed by the sanitation truck for external disposal. The oxygen required for the biochemical system is supplied by a blower, and the aeration system uses a blower micro porous aerator. Considering the high noise level of the blower, the fan room is specially designed to be soundproof and soundproof.

5、 Characteristics of wastewater treatment technology in food processing
