110kV and above high-voltage cables mainly use single core cables, and their metal sheaths are generally connected at one end and directly grounded, while the other end is grounded through a protective layer protector. These interconnection wires, protective layer protectors, etc. are assembled in one box, namely the cable grounding box.
Grounding boxes are divided into three types: direct grounding boxes, cross connected grounding boxes, and protective grounding boxes, and have been widely used.

The grounding box has the following issues during use:
  1. Lack of circulation detection and induced voltage monitoring functions.

The use of manual inspection has a long cycle and cannot detect problems in a timely manner, missing the best opportunity for repair.
  1. There are many incidents of grounding wire theft and cutting.

Once the grounding wire is damaged or stolen, the voltage of the metal sheath will become a floating voltage, which may exceed the power frequency withstand voltage of the cable outer sheath and cause breakdown. The stolen grounding box is difficult to detect in a short period of time.
  1. The lack of cable joint temperature is unpredictable.

Due to damage to the cable protective layer and other reasons, the cable temperature is too high, which affects the safety of the circuit.
  1. The cable trench environment is complex and lacks real environmental data.

The garbage in the cable trench is easily decomposed by microorganisms to produce combustible gases such as methane, which poses a great hidden danger to the operation of high-voltage cables; Cable trenches are prone to water accumulation, and running cables in a flooded state can seriously affect cable insulation and service life.

Metal protective layer circulation monitoring system

The A, B, C, and N phases in the direct grounding box and cross interconnection box are all equipped with electromagnetic current transformers, which monitor the current signals on the three-phase metal sheath in real time and transmit them to the management platform through intelligent terminals. When the temperature value exceeds the set threshold, send an alarm message to the relevant person in charge.

Metal protective layer induced voltage monitoring system

The direct grounding box and the cross interconnection box are equipped with electromagnetic voltage transformers for phases A, B, C, and N, which monitor the induced voltage signals on the three-phase metal sheath in real time and transmit them to the management platform through intelligent terminals. When the induced voltage value exceeds the set threshold, send an alarm message to the relevant person in charge.

Metal protective layer temperature monitoring system

By placing the temperature sensor close to the metal sheath, the temperature on the three-phase metal sheath can be monitored in real-time and transmitted to the management platform through an intelligent terminal. When the temperature value exceeds the set threshold, send an alarm message to the relevant person in charge.

Gas state monitoring system (optional)
For the operating environment of cable tunnels, the intelligent terminal of cable protection layer can be equipped with gas sensors to monitor the gas environment of cable tunnels. The content of harmful gases such as oxygen, carbon monoxide, and combustible gases such as methane.


Real time monitoring of oxygen, harmful gases, and toxic gases through intelligent terminals, and real-time transmission to the management platform. When the gas content exceeds the set threshold range, the management platform automatically sends an alarm message to the relevant person in charge.
