The principle of electrodialysis is to alternately arrange cation exchange membranes (C) and anion exchange membranes (A) between a pair of electrodes, thereby forming a desalination chamber and a concentration chamber. Put salt (NaCl) into the desalination chamber, and use direct current to gather cations (Na+) on the cathode side, which then move through the cation exchange membrane to the concentration chamber. In addition, anions (Cl -) aggregate on the anode side and move through the anion exchange membrane to the concentration chamber. In this way, salt is removed in the desalination chamber and synthesized in the concentration chamber.
