Diffusion dialysis refers to the use of ion exchange membranes to separate feed and receive solutions with different concentrations. Solutes diffuse through the membrane from the side with higher concentration to the side with lower concentration. When the concentration on both sides of the membrane reaches equilibrium, the dialysis process stops. The concentration difference is the driving force behind dialysis. During the dialysis process, the feed solution and the receiving solution generally flow in opposite directions. Diffusion dialysis is different from electrodialysis in that it does not require an external direct current electric field, but relies solely on the concentration difference between the solutions on both sides of the membrane as a driving force. Ion exchange membrane diffusion dialysis utilizes the selective permeability of ion exchange membranes to achieve material separation. Due to the fact that diffusion dialysis does not require an external electric field, the diffusion dialysis device eliminates the electrode chamber, making the device simpler.
