Pollution and cleaning of reverse osmosis consumables

After a period of normal use, reverse osmosis consumables may be contaminated by suspended solids or insoluble salts that may exist in the water source. Common pollutants include calcium carbonate precipitation, calcium sulfate precipitation, metals (iron, manganese, copper, nickel, aluminum, etc.), oxide precipitation, silicon precipitation, diamond precipitation, natural organic matter, synthetic organic matter (scale inhibitors/dispersants, cationic polymerization agents), microorganisms (algae, mold, fungi), etc. The nature and speed of its pollution depend on factors such as water supply quality and system recovery rate. In general, membrane fouling develops gradually, and if not controlled early, it can damage membrane components in a very short period of time. If the membrane is contaminated, or before long-term shutdown, or as a routine maintenance, it shouldClean reverse osmosis consumables.

The main conditions for stable operation are water production, pressure after water production, recovery rate, temperature, and TDS. If the operating parameters fluctuate greatly, Hyde can suggest conducting pollution testing or checking whether the reverse osmosis device can work normally when key operating parameters change.

Regularly testing the overall performance of the system is the basic method to confirm whether the membrane components are contaminated. Membrane fouling is gradual, and its degree of impact is related to the properties of the membrane. Table 1: Characteristics and treatment methods of reverse osmosis membrane fouling, listing common fouling phenomena and treatment methods.

It is very important to clean the membrane components when the reverse osmosis consumables are slightly contaminated. Toxic substances can hinder the entry of chemicals into the pollution layer, affecting the cleaning effect.

What pollutants need to be cleaned and how to clean them must be determined based on the pollution situation on site. The alternating use of low acid alkaline cleaning solution and high acid alkaline cleaning solution is due to the complexity of certain pollutants (low acid alkaline cleaning).
