This instrument can automatically switch between measurement modes: magnetic induction or eddy current. Place the probe vertically on a magnetic metal substrate (such as steel or iron), and "Fe" will be displayed above the screen; Place the probe vertically on a non-magnetic metal substrate (such as aluminum, zinc, copper, etc.), and "NFe" will be displayed above the screen. You can also cancel the automatic conversion through the menu: press the "MODE" button twice, the screen will display "GAG", press the "ENTER" button, the screen will display "AUT Auto", press the "MODE" button, the screen will display "Fe Auto", press "ENTER" again
The screen displays "Fe" and enters the Fe measurement mode, which can measure the coating on magnetic substrates such as steel and iron. If you want to measure coatings on non-magnetic metals such as aluminum, copper, zinc, stainless steel and other substrates, you need to set the measurement mode to nFE and use the same method as above. To return to the automatic recognition function, the operation is as follows: press the "MODE" button twice, the screen displays "GAG", press the "ENTER" button, the screen displays "Fe" or "nFE", press the "ENTER" button again, the screen displays "Fe Auto" or "nFE Auto", and the instrument enters automatic mode.
The instrument automatically displays the average value "Ave" and the number of measurements "n" when turned on. The instrument displays "Cd3" or the last measurement value when turned on. Press the "ON/OFF" button, and the screen will display "Ave" and previous measurement results. Press the "ON/OFF" button again, and the screen will display "n", where n represents the number of measurements.
The operation to delete stored data is as follows: Press "MODE" in measurement mode to display "rS ", press "ENTER" to display "no", press "MODE" again to display "YES", press "ENTER" to display the next measurement result, and now check if the storage is empty. Press "ON/OFF" to display "Ave ---"
Press' ON/OFF 'again to display' n 'and' 0 ', indicating that the storage has been cleared. Press' ON/OFF 'again to return to measurement mode. The instrument can be operated quickly and easily through the menu.
2. Instrument Introduction:
The D3 portable thickness gauge is easy to operate and has powerful functions. (D3 plus can transmit data to a computer through RS232 interface). The D3 thickness gauge has two measurement functions: magnetic induction and eddy current.
Magnetic induction can be used to measure non-magnetic coatings (such as paint, anti-corrosion coatings, galvanized coatings, copper coatings, etc.) on all magnetic substrates (such as steel, iron)
Eddy current can be used to measure non-conductive coatings (such as paint, anti-corrosion coatings, oxide films) on all non-magnetic metals (such as copper, aluminum, stainless steel)
The D3 thickness gauge meets the following standards:
DIN 50981, 50984
ISO 2178, 2360, 2808
BS 5411 (3, 11) 3900 (c, 5)
ASTM B499, D1400
3. Usage and storage
The D3 thickness gauge is a high-precision and widely applicable instrument. To ensure the long-term measurement accuracy and stability of the instrument, please use it according to the following instructions:
Keep the instrument clean and avoid falling from a high altitude
Avoid working in dusty and humid environments with highly corrosive chemicals and vapors.
Please place the instrument in the storage box after use.
Do not expose to prolonged sunlight, as temperature can affect measurement accuracy.
The instrument casing can resist the erosion of most chemicals and is kept clean with a soft cloth
A clean probe is necessary to ensure measurement results**
If not in use for a long time, the battery should be removed to avoid leakage of battery fluid and corrosion of the motherboard.
If there is a problem with the instrument, please contact the agent for repair or return it to the manufacturer for repair. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair any empty items on your own.
4. Battery replacement
The instrument is powered by a 9V alkaline battery. The battery cover is on the back of the instrument. If the screen displays "B", the battery needs to be replaced. If the battery has not been replaced, the instrument can continue to measure until it shuts down without power.
5. Zero adjustment of instruments
The instrument needs to be zeroed before measurement, after replacing the substrate, and after replacing the battery. Press the instrument probe onto the iron or aluminum plate inside the box, or press the instrument onto an unpainted workpiece for zeroing. Press the probe onto the surface, and if the value displayed by the instrument exceeds the allowable error range, it needs to be zeroed. The zeroing steps are as follows:
Remove the instrument from the zeroing board
Press the button 'ZERO', the screen displays' P-O.O. '
Press the instrument probe onto the zeroing plate, and the screen will display "PinF", automatically returning to the measurement state
Press the probe onto the zeroing plate again, and the instrument will display "0", indicating successful zeroing and allowing for measurement
Attention: Due to unclean zeroing board or other operational reasons and errors, different values may be obtained by measuring the zeroing board after zeroing. As long as the zeroing is within the error range, we consider it successful.
6. Measurement operation
It can be turned on in two ways
Press the "ON/OFF" button to turn on the instrument and display "Cd3"
Or press the instrument probe onto any measuring object, automatically turn on and display "Cd3"
The instrument will automatically shut down after 40 seconds of inactivity, or you can press and hold the "ON/OFF" button for 5 seconds to shut it down
To measure, press the instrument probe vertically onto the surface of the object being measured. Place the thumb in front of the instrument and the other four fingers behind it to ensure that the instrument does not shake during measurement. This completes the measurement.
If the instrument is lifted too early, or zeroed incorrectly or placed incorrectly, the screen will display an "ErrO" error
If the measured thickness exceeds the range or non-metallic substrate is measured, the screen will display "InFi"
When measuring curved surfaces such as arcs and spheres, the V-shaped notch of the instrument probe can help you ensure that the probe is perpendicular to the surface.
Caution: Do not use it to measure magnets or use the instrument in a magnetic field.
7. Menu usage
The function settings of the instrument can be completed through menu operations:
Measurement method: Take the average of single or continuous measurements
Unit of measurement: µ m or mil (metric and imperial)
Turn on and off the prompt sound
Display of instrument machine number
The menu of the instrument can be accessed through the "MODE" button, and the menu content can be cycled through by pressing the "MODE" button. If you want to change a setting, you can confirm with the "ENTER" key to enter the setting submenu for that item. Confirm through the "MODE" button after setting.
For example, if you want to change the measurement method, press the "MODE" button until the screen displays "ConT", then press the confirm button to enter the sub dimming setting, select "ON" or "OFF" (ON represents continuous measurement, OFF represents single measurement), select it, and press "MODE" to confirm.
The meaning of the identification code on the instrument screen:
ErO: Operation error
InF: substrate error or exceeding range
