When the temperature drops, the viscosity of the oil will thicken. When the temperature rises, it will become thinner. temperature

2、 Speed

The faster the sliding and rotating speed, the less time it takes for lubricant to squeeze between the gears. At the same time, lubricating oil is more prone to clumping and thickening under high-speed operation. Therefore, high viscosity (heavy oil) is used at low speeds, and low viscosity oil (light oil) is used at high speeds

3、 Load capacity

Heavy oil is better able to withstand heavy loads and impact loads. In addition to viscous oils, oils with pressure additives can provide better protection for gears at the same viscosity, such as L-CKD heavy-duty industrial gear oil produced by Great Wall Company.

4、 Impact load

For example, the rhythmic force emitted by the engine requires a relatively thick oil to prevent boundary lubrication caused by the instantaneous rupture of the oil film, as only a small amount of lubricating oil can be left. In this case, lubricating oil containing pressure additives (EP) is required.

5、 Gear type

When using spur, helical, herringbone, and bevel gear pairs, sliding and rotating will generate effective oil film formation, thereby slowing down the direct contact between meshing teeth. On non-uniform shaft transmission devices such as turbine blades and hyperbolic gears, the direction of relative sliding operation is not conducive to maintaining the oil film. On this transmission device, a large amount of boundary lubrication often occurs. Therefore, heavy oil is still required on turbine vortex rod devices and hyperbolic gear transmission devices with large eccentricity. When these transmission devices are subjected to heavy loads and high pressures, it is necessary to choose lubricating oil with high-strength oil film characteristics (high viscosity), smoothness, lubricity, or even additives.

6、 Water pollution

Gearboxes that are prone to water ingress should choose L-CKD type gear oil with good water separation performance.

The specific viscosity grade and oil change period should refer to the lubricating oil in the equipment manual. The commonly used viscosity grades for gear lubrication under medium and heavy loads are 150 #, 220 #, 320 #, and 460 #. For areas where oil change is inconvenient, it may be considered to use fully synthetic industrial gear oil to extend the oil change period or to use a suitable gear oil filter in conjunction.
