Activated carbon is a black powdery, granular, or pellet shaped amorphous carbon with porous properties. The main component is carbon, which also contains a small amount of oxygen, hydrogen, sulfur, nitrogen, and chlorine. It also has a fine structure like graphite, but with small grains and irregular layer by layer stacking, it has a large surface area (500~1000m/g). It has strong adsorption ability and can adsorb gases, liquids or gel like solids on its surface. The adsorption of gases and liquids can be close to the quality of activated carbon itself.
