The CIRS 086 ACR certified digital breast phantom was designed under the sponsorship of the American College of Radiology (ACR) to test the performance of FFDM systems. The objects inside the phantom simulate calcification, ducts, and blocks. CIRS 086 ACR certified full field digital mammography phantom aims to determine whether your DM system can detect important small structures in early detection of breast cancer.
The key component of the CIRS 086 ACR certified digital breast phantom in the United States is a 7mm thick wax insert located in a matching cavity ground in a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) block. By using a 0.23mm "compensator" placed under the wax insert, the total attenuation under the wax insert matches that of 4.1cm thick PMMA. The wax insert contains targets according to the map (Figure 2). The fiber is monofilament nylon, made of spherical glass to simulate calcification or "spots", with a mass that simulates 10% fat -90% glandular breast tissue.
