The independent power sources for intrinsically safe portable electrical equipment are dry batteries and rechargeable batteries. Both dry cell and battery power sources belong to resistive circuits, and the safety parameters of the power source can be determined based on the small ignition current curve of the resistive circuit. Find the corresponding small ignition current based on the high voltage of the battery, and divide it by the safety factor value (which is 2) to obtain the allowable safe current for the design of the battery. The severe discharge state of the battery is a direct short circuit of the battery. Therefore, the short-circuit current of the battery should be used as the benchmark to measure the intrinsic safety performance of the power supply. If the short-circuit current of the battery is greater than the design allowable value, a current limiting resistor must be added in series. Moreover, the battery or accumulator is integrated with the current limiting resistor seal, forming an inherently safe component. Sealing materials include epoxy resin, silicone rubber, industrial paraffin, etc.
For example, we are designing a specially designed intrinsically safe battery pack for steel string frequency timing, consisting of four 5 # rechargeable batteries connected in series and a current limiting resistor made of copper wire with a power of 5.2 W. The entire space of the battery box is filled with epoxy resin adhesive and sealed firmly.
There are many intrinsically safe electrical equipment used in practical applications underground in coal mines, which also adopt rectified power supply introduced from the power grid. Due to the connection between the input circuit and the power grid, it should be designed as explosion-proof and inherently safe.
For the power supply of explosion-proof electrical appliances, the wiring is done in the explosion-proof junction box to complete the connection of the electrical power supply when the upper level power is cut off
