Principle: The impeller is installed inside the pump casing and fastened to the pump shaft, which is directly driven by the motor. There is a liquid suction and suction pipe connected in the center of the pump casing. The liquid enters the pump through the bottom valve and suction pipe. The liquid discharge port on the pump casing is connected to the discharge pipe. Centrifugation is actually a manifestation of the inertia of an object, such as a water droplet on an umbrella. When the umbrella rotates slowly, the water droplet will follow the rotation of the umbrella, because the frictional force between the umbrella and the water droplet acts as the centripetal force for the water droplet. But if the umbrella rotates faster and the frictional force is not enough to make the water droplet move in a circular motion, the water droplet will detach from the umbrella and move towards the outer edge, just like pulling a stone with a rope for circular motion. If the speed is too fast, the rope will break and the stone will fly out This is called centrifugation.
When a centrifugal pump is in operation, the pump shaft rotates while the casing remains stationary. If the annular gap between them is not sealed or poorly sealed, external air will seep into the low-pressure area at the center of the impeller, causing a decrease in the pump's flow rate and efficiency. When severe, the flow rate is zero - gas confinement. Usually, mechanical seals or packing seals can be used to achieve sealing between the shaft and the shell.
