The difference between contactors and circuit breakers:
Circuit breakers can extinguish arcs, have segmented capabilities, and provide protection. Contactors use coils to control the on/off of circuits. After the contactor is powered on, the normally open one is closed and the long closed one is closed, thus controlling the circuit.
1. Circuit breakers are mainly used for protection, but they do not break due to overheating. Currently, the commonly used protection method is three-stage protection, which includes overload protection, short-circuit short delay, and long-distance long delay. There are also some protection functions such as undervoltage and overvoltage. It depends on the brand and model. Its opening and closing can be manual or electric. There are three installation methods: fixed type, drawer type, etc. According to the magnitude of current and the level of operating voltage, it can be divided into low-voltage molded case circuit breakers, low-voltage frame circuit breakers, and high-voltage vacuum circuit breakers. According to the different release curves, it can be divided into different usage scenarios. There is still a big difference between it and fuses.
2. Contactors are mainly used for industrial control, with motors being the main load. Of course, they may also be used in situations such as heaters and dual power switching. The on-off of the contactor is achieved by controlling the coil voltage. According to the different structures of arc extinguishing, it can be divided into vacuum contactors and ordinary contactors. According to different control voltages, it can be divided into DC contactors and AC contactors, and its main accessories are auxiliary contacts.
