Organic wastewater comes into contact with fillers containing anaerobic bacteria during the flow process, which can result in longer sludge ages under shorter hydraulic retention time conditions, with an average sludge age of over 100 days.

The advantages of anaerobic filters are: high concentration of biological solids, which can bear high organic loads; Biological solids have a long residence time and strong resistance to impact loads; The startup time is short, and it is relatively easy to restart after stopping the operation; No need for sludge reflux; Easy operation and management. The disadvantage of anaerobic biofilters is that they are prone to clogging and short circuiting when there is a high concentration of suspended solids in wastewater.
