Lightweight and small in size, due to the use of high-frequency technology, the power frequency (50Hz) transformer is removed. Compared with the phase controlled rectifier, the volume of the switching power supply is only 1/10 of that of the phase controlled rectifier when outputting the same power, and the weight is also close to 1/10.
The power factor of the phase controlled rectifier is high, and it varies with the conduction angle of the thyristor. Generally, when it is fully conductive, it can be close to 0.7 or above, while at low loads, it is around 0.3. The power factor of a calibrated switching power supply is generally above 0.93 and is not significantly affected by load changes.
Low audible noise. In phase controlled rectification equipment, the audible noise generated by the operation of power frequency transformers and filter inductors is large, generally greater than 60dB, while the audible noise of switching power supplies without fans is only about 45dB.
