1、 Overview of ZS-221 Sunscreen and Thermal Insulation Coating Products

ZS-221 sunscreen and heat insulation coating is a new water-based special coating developed by Beijing Zhisheng Weihua, which integrates reflection, radiation, infrared shielding and hollow bead heat insulation. It uses special synthetic water-based silicone acrylic lotion, titanium white, hollow glass beads as basic raw materials, integrates new inorganic materials such as carbon nanotubes, carbides, and nitrides, and achieves the integration of multiple functions of "sunscreen, heat insulation, anti-corrosion, and environmental protection" through material composite technology. This product is a single component room temperature curing system, non-toxic, harmless, and has no flash point. It complies with the GB 50325-2020 environmental protection standard and is widely used in facilities exposed to solar thermal radiation such as oil tanks, oil pipelines, offshore drilling platforms, and grain depots. It can effectively reduce the surface and internal temperature of objects, improve the operating environment, and enhance facility safety.

(1) Core Technology and Working Principle

ZS-221 coating relies on a quadruple synergistic insulation mechanism to construct a full band spectral defense system, blocking the absorption and conduction of solar heat from the source:
  1. Full band reflectionEfficient reflection of solar infrared, visible light, and ultraviolet radiation in the range of 400nm-2500nm, with a solar thermal reflectance of over 92%. Most of the reflection can be completed before the heat contacts the surface of the object, avoiding heat accumulation and temperature rise;

  2. Active radiation heat dissipationBuilt in high emissivity materials, even on cloudy or nighttime days, can actively radiate residual heat from the surface of objects into space, achieving all-weather cooling, with a hemispherical emissivity of up to 0.89;

  3. Nano barrier insulationThe thermal conductivity of the nano hollow microspheres filled in the coating is only 0.03W/m · K, forming millions of micro "vacuum chambers" that effectively block the conduction of heat to the interior of the object and construct a dense thermal resistance layer;

  4. Infrared shielding protectionThe added inorganic materials such as carbon nanotubes and carbides form a stacked electromagnetic wave shielding layer, which can intercept solar infrared radiation in advance, further improve the insulation effect, and enhance the aging resistance of the coating.

According to the product manual and testing data, the core performance indicators of ZS-221 sunscreen and thermal insulation coating are as follows:
  • Appearance: milky white, smooth and even surface after brushing, excellent hydrophobicity and self-cleaning properties;

2、 Application of ZS-221 Sunscreen and Thermal Insulation Coating on Oil Tanks(New application of reflective cooling coating for large oil storage tanks

(1) Solving the core pain points of oil tank application

  1. Reduce oil volatilization lossHigh temperature will accelerate the volatilization of light oil in the oil tank, and traditional protection methods are difficult to effectively control temperature. After applying ZS-221 coating, the surface temperature of the oil tank can be reduced by more than 25 ℃, and the oil temperature inside the tank can be reduced by 4-8 ℃, which can significantly reduce the evaporation loss of oil products. The measured annual loss rate can be reduced from 0.8% to below 0.3%;

  2. Delaying the aging and corrosion of tank wallsOil tanks are prone to thermal expansion and contraction caused by the temperature difference between day and night for a long time, which can lead to weld cracking, coating peeling, and corrosion. ZS-221 coating can effectively reduce the temperature difference between day and night on the tank wall, reduce structural stress damage, and its dense coating can isolate air, rainwater, and salt erosion. It has excellent resistance to salt spray and moisture, and can extend the service life of oil tanks by more than 30%;

  3. Improve operational safety factorThe accumulation of oil and gas generated by the volatilization of oil products can increase the risk of fire and explosion, and high temperatures can reduce the mechanical properties of oil tank materials. The coating has no flash point and excellent flame retardancy. At the same time, it reduces oil and gas evaporation through cooling, thereby reducing safety hazards from the source; In addition, its good self-cleaning ability can prevent dust accumulation from affecting heat dissipation and maintain long-term stable protective effect;

  4. Save cooling energy consumption costsSome large oil tanks use spray cooling systems, which have high energy consumption. After applying ZS-221 coating, the operating time of the sprinkler system can be significantly reduced, and even in some areas, it can replace sprinkler cooling. Calculated based on the surface area of a 1000 square meter oil tank, the annual energy savings can reach more than 120000 kWh, and the investment recovery cycle is less than 2 years.

(2) Key points of oil tank construction

To ensure the application effect of the coating on the oil tank, the following construction specifications must be strictly followed:
  1. surface treatmentRemove dust, oil stains, rust, and brittle coatings from the surface of the oil tank. Use manual polishing to St3 level or sandblasting to Sa2.5 level to ensure a surface roughness of 25-40 μ m and improve coating adhesion;

  2. Construction methodAir spraying or brushing can be used, and it is recommended to use the cross cross method for brushing to ensure uniform coating without any omissions; Recommended dry film thickness of 200 μ m, theoretical coating rate of 2 ㎡/kg, requiring two coats of coating;

  3. drying and curingThe construction environment should be dry and ventilated, with a temperature controlled between 0 ℃ and 40 ℃, to avoid construction in rainy or high humidity environments. The surface drying time is ≤ 2 hours, and the actual drying time is ≤ 24 hours. Subsequent processes can only be carried out after actual drying;

  4. maintenanceThe shelf life of the coating is 12 months, and if it is not used up after opening, it needs to be sealed and stored; Regularly inspect the coating status after construction, and promptly repair any local damages found, which can further extend the service life.

(3) Practical application case verification

In a crude oil storage tank project in Karamay Oil Field, Xinjiang, ten 10000 m ³ steel oil tanks were coated with ZS-221 sunscreen and thermal insulation coating, and measured at high temperature in summer:
  • The surface temperature of the tank wall decreased from 78 ℃ to 51 ℃, with a cooling range of 27 ℃;

  • The temperature of the crude oil inside the tank remains stable below 32 ℃, which is 6 ℃ lower than that of the unpainted oil tank;

  • The annual volatilization loss of light oil has been reduced by 65%, saving over 150000 yuan in economic costs per tank per year;

  • The coating has undergone 3 years of outdoor exposure without powdering or cracking, and its weather resistance meets the harsh environmental requirements of oil fields.

3. Summary
