UV sterilizerTwo very important electrical components are ultraviolet sterilization lamps and ballasts, which are divided into inductive ballasts, preheating electronic ballasts, and instant start electronic ballasts.
If a UV sterilizer uses an instant start electronic ballast, due to the high voltage lighting, the number of extinguishing times is about 1000-2000 times, and the UV sterilization lamp tube will turn black and end its life. Another disadvantage to be aware of with instant start electronic ballasts is that they may not light up easily in cold weather, especially for the new generation of UV sterilization lamps filled with mercury amalgam and solid mercury. If using quick start electronic ballasts, the number of extinguishing times is about 3000-5000, and the UV sterilization lamps will also turn black. However, due to the use of coil preheating, the current on the coil will continue to flow through the filament of the lamp after the lamp is lit, consuming 1.5-30000 more electricity than other starting electronic ballasts, which is about 2.8% to 5.6%.
If a UV sterilizer is designed with mechanical switch electronic components for preheating and starting, such as relays and field-effect transistors, it can be turned off up to 20000~50000 times before the UV sterilization lamp tube turns black. When lit up, no current flows through the filament or very little current flows through the filament, which can truly increase the lifespan of the lamp tube by 50%. At present, this starting method is basically the same as the starting principle of preheating electronic ballasts, so it has been replaced by preheating electronic ballasts.
In summary, the impact of different start-up methods on the service life of ultraviolet disinfectors is evident. Therefore, in recent years, ultraviolet disinfection manufacturers have increasingly chosen preheating electronic ballasts, especially for sewage ultraviolet disinfectors that use high-power low-voltage ultraviolet sterilization lamps. Choosing preheating electronic ballasts is of great significance for the use and maintenance of equipment.
