Water hammer is a phenomenon in which the flow velocity in a pressure pipeline changes rapidly due to external reasons, causing the pressure of the liquid to rise and fall alternately. The pressure generated by this phenomenon acts on valves, pipe walls, or other pipeline components like a hammer, hence it is called water hammer. Valves that control flow in rapid opening and closing systems, or pumps used in high-rise building water supply and other liquid transportation systems, are prone to water hammer. When water hammer occurs, the enormous kinetic energy of the liquid in the pipeline system acts on rigid pipes and fittings, preventing energy from being released and causing pipeline vibration and roar, which can seriously lead to pipeline rupture, causing harm and losses. After installing the water hammer eliminator, the huge kinetic energy of the liquid can be compressed by the piston of the water hammer eliminator to do work, and the energy is converted, reducing the destructive force of the water hammer and playing a role in eliminating noise and protecting the pipeline network.

Water hammer absorberInstallation, Maintenance, and Precautions

DN15~50 is a threaded connection, vertically installed on the pipeline with a standard tee, used for branch systems to eliminate irregular water hammer waves and noise in the pipeline. DN50~300 is a flange connection, connected externally with a standard tee.
1. The piston type water hammer eliminator should be installed near the water hammer source as much as possible, and its installation should be convenient for the water hammer wave to reach the eliminator. The installation diagram is shown in the following two examples:
2. Precautions
1. The pressure gauge on the valve body displays the pressure in the valve chamber before installation and the pressure in the pipeline after installation.
2. Please confirm before installation that the pressure in the air chamber of the water hammer eliminator should not exceed the pressure in the pipeline
3. When the head is above 50m and the pressure is above 5Kgf/cm2, it is recommended to install one water hammer eliminator below the long pipeline and at the corner above the check valve.
4. For maintenance purposes, it is recommended to maintain a 10cm gap between the valve body and the wall to facilitate maintenance operations.
5. If the water pressure in the pipeline is low or the pressure in the air chamber of the water hammer eliminator is low, air pressure can be added or released by placing an air injection plug above the water hammer eliminator.
6. When the pressure in the air chamber of the water hammer eliminator is maintained at 50%~70% of the pipeline pressure, the effectiveness of the water hammer eliminator is improved
7. The secondary side is suitable for open pressure applications, such as water level valves, bathroom appliances, and water injection with a gas injection rate of 1-1.3Kgf/cm2
