Product Introduction
The generation pathways of trace water in electrolytes are diverse. In the raw material process, the solvent itself has hygroscopic properties, a small amount of water molecules may remain after lithium salt synthesis, and additives may become sources of moisture if not fully dried. During the production phase, insufficient drying of equipment and pipelines, high environmental humidity, or human error may introduce moisture. During storage and transportation, inadequate packaging sealing or humid external environment can also cause an increase in electrolyte moisture content.
Trace amounts of water pose multiple threats to the performance and safety of lithium-ion batteries. It will undergo hydrolysis reaction with lithium salts such as LiPF6, producing corrosive compounds such as HF, which corrode the positive and negative active materials and current collectors, leading to irreversible capacity reduction and reduced cycle life. Meanwhile, moisture can interfere with the formation and stability of SEI film, reduce Coulombic efficiency, and damage the long-term performance of the battery. The by-product gas from the reaction can also cause an increase in internal pressure, increase the probability of thermal runaway, and cause an increase in internal resistance, affecting power characteristics and low-temperature performance. More seriously, water can trigger multiple side reaction chains, disrupt the internal chemical balance of the battery, and comprehensively weaken the overall performance of the battery.
