The validated simulation technology of CIRS 011A breast phantom can make tissues equivalent and provide a realistic model for quality assurance in mammography.

Resin materials mimic the photon attenuation coefficients of a series of breast tissues. The average elemental composition of the imitated human breast is based on the individual elemental composition of fat and glandular tissue reported by Hammerstein.

The attenuation coefficient is calculated using JHHubbell's "mixing rule" and the photon mass attenuation and energy absorption coefficient table.

The CIRS 011A breast phantom contains targets aimed at testing the threshold of the new generation of mammography machines. 4.5 centimeters thick, and simulate the average glandular tissue composition.

Intended to test the performance of any mammography system. The objects in the model simulate calcification, including fibrous calcification in ducts and tumor masses. The range of testing objects within the body range should be from objects that should be visible on any system to objects that are difficult to solve on the most advanced mammography system.
