The oxygen required by microorganisms in biological contact oxidation is supplied through artificial aeration. After the biofilm grows to a certain thickness, microorganisms near the packing wall undergo anaerobic metabolism due to hypoxia. The gas produced and the scouring effect of aeration can cause the biofilm to detach and promote the growth of new biofilm, forming the metabolism of biofilm. The detached biofilm will flow out with water. Compared with conventional activated sludge processes, biological contact oxidation has the following advantages: it has a higher volumetric load; Generally, there is no need for a sludge return system, and there is no problem of sludge expansion, making operation and management simple; Has strong adaptability to sudden changes in water quality and quantity; The sludge production is lower than that of activated sludge method.

To obtain sewage as close as possible to the water quality of ship sewage treatment, sewage pumps are installed directly in the septic tank without sedimentation. The start and stop of the sewage pump are controlled by the liquid level gauge inside the equipment. When the liquid level in the settling tank is at a low level, the sewage pump starts. When the liquid level reaches a high level, the sewage pump automatically stops.
